Outline
Capture that scene with confidence and creativity. This is an outdoor course that focuses on honing compositional skills specific to landscapes and cityscapes. Learn savvy techniques that will turn your landscape images into outstanding ones, such as lighting, composition, special effects, and more. Our experienced instructors will guide you through various sets of exercises and outdoor shooting scenarios that will further develop the skills learned during class. Shooting areas will be either the High Line, Union Square, Central Park, or other locations as determined by the instructor.
Great for travelers in preparing you to capture those scenic moments beautifully on camera.
Requirements: Any digital camera (point-and-shoot or SLR).
Level of Knowledge Assumed: Basic photography understanding and practice. This course will not review the fundamentals of camera functions and exposure; students are expected to know how to manage their cameras and exposure — either in automatic or manual mode (recommended). The first half of our Photo I course can suffice depending on each student. However, we recommend taking Photo I fully prior or in parallel to Landscape.
Note: Classes take place mainly outdoors. In the winter months, please be prepared for the cold. Some parts of the sessions may take place indoors on very cold days. In case of rain, classes may be rescheduled, as possible. Limited to 10 students. Should the assigned instructor become suddenly unavailable, we’ll allocate a substitute.
For beginners, instruction focus on providing students with a solid ground on the fundamentals of photography while accommodating to students' various interests, whether it's shooting with a DSLR, a point and shoot, in manual or in automatic mode, we've master our beginner programs to suit all. To those more advanced, we have challenging photography courses such as Studio Lighting and Portraiture that will make even experienced amateurs stop and think about exactly what they are trying to do when they hit the shutter..
In addition, we host group events, exhibitions and lead group workshops in Union Square and in different neighborhoods of New York City. A wide range of people have taken classes here, and participated in group events, from professionals, to those seeking to become professionals, to those who are looking for a means of moving beyond the 8-6 routine that otherwise traps so many of us. We invite anyone interested in either taking classes, renting space, or becoming involved in PhotoManhattan's group activities, to contact us by phone, by email, or by passing by the studio. Now go out there and shoot ...
