  • This 5-day, 40-hour course has been designed to meet the Management of Electrical and Electronic Control Equipment training requirements of 46 CFR 11.325(a)(3)(iii) and (b)(3); 46 CFR 11.327(a)(3)(iii) and (b)(3); 46 CFR 11.331(a)(3)(iii) and (b)(3); and 46 CFR 11.333(a)(3)(iii) and (b)(3); and the “Manage operation of electrical and electronic control equipment” and “Manage trouble-shooting and restoration of electrical and electronic control equipment to operating condition” competences of Table A-III/2 of the STCW Code, as amended.
  • This course is designed to provide theoretical knowledge to support the tasks, duties, and responsibilities in managing the operation of electrical and electronic control equipment; troubleshooting; and restoring electrical and electronic control equipment to operating condition in case of malfunction.
The following learning objectives are prefaced by, “The expected learning outcome is that the trainee…”
  • Contributes to a safer and more efficient operation and control of the ship’s machinery
  • Demonstrates the use of instrumentation and controls extensively used in the engine rooms
  • Explains the need for proper pre-planning, the use of checklist, and of the timescales in start-up procedures
  • Recognizes the way in which machinery units are interdependent
  • Identifies operational problems and troubleshoots them
  • Applies decision-making skills and techniques that promote safety and efficiency
A course completion certificate will be issued to the student upon successful completion of all course requirements and assessments. To pass this course a candidate must:
  • Participate in class
  • Complete exercises and assignments and Homework
  • Pass written examination – 70% or greater
  • Take part in all practical exercises and simulations
Target Audience
Chief Engineers, Shore-based engine staff, Technical superintendents, all management and operational level staff on board (OICEW). This course is open to marine engineer officers who hold a certificate under the 1978 STCW Convention, as amended, at the operational level with at least six (6) months of seafaring service on that capacity.
